Our story

About Technicol SA College.

A family-driven institution built on the belief that quality education should be accessible to every South African.

Students building their futures together

Access creates possibility

Every learner deserves a clear path forward.

Our distance and class-based options are designed for people balancing study, work, family and a determination to improve their future.

The story behind this college.

After realising that a large number of students were denied the opportunity to further their studies because of the lack of space at public TVET Colleges, senior lecturer in Mathematics at Tshwane South TVET College, the late Mr Eugene van der Walt, decided to establish Gauteng Distance College in 1998.

After an overwhelming response throughout the country, he renamed the institution to Technicol SA College, emphasising that education and opportunity should be available to everyone across South Africa.

This paved the way for students who were turned away and for working adults who needed to improve their qualifications without sacrificing their income. Since its establishment, this family-driven company has become the biggest privately owned TVET college in South Africa.

Executive summary

Technicol SA College is a private Further Education and Training (FET) college that aims to offer exceptional quality education and to maintain standards not inferior to comparable public TVET institutions.

All staff are expected to observe ethical and fair business practices, to widen access to education, meet labour market needs, and to protect the integrity of the TVET system and the interests of the public.

Value net analysis

Established in 1998 with approximately 7 students as a distance learning college for learners who wanted to repeat Grade 12 and N1 to N6 subjects. We provide an essential service to learners who do not have the time, money, resources or ability to study full-time.
